Will the metal rod for a dental implant hold the gap for the crown, or do i still need my braces on?

Right now, I basically have my top row of braces on for no reason, except to hold the gap where I'm getting a dental implant (i was born without the root for one of the lateral incisors). I am getting the metal rod placed in next week (I've already had the implant placed and bone graft), so I just need to wait for the crown to be placed onto the rod. I want to ask my orthodontist to take my braces off once the rod is in place instead of waiting for the crown...would I be making a valid request? The only reason the braces are on is to hold the space for the gap. thanks!
