Can i replace my sewage lagoon with laterals?

I live in Clay County Missouri where the soil is mostly clay and does not perk well. I have a septic system with the 3 chambers and aerator that is then pumped to the pond. I hate having this pond and would much rather have underground laterals. the size of the pond is about 25x25 feet. if i used the excavation of the pond and filled it with porous material such as clean gravel and then used this as my field would this work? Is this a big enough area for a lateral field?
