Why can't I connect to the internet?

I have a net-book that I brought to my friends house, and wanted to connect to the internet.I find his wireless signal, and it connects and says that my connection is excellent. However, when I open Internet Explorer it pops up with an error message titled "No Script" and underneath it says"*Line 1, Column 1 Syntax error:value, object or array expected." After I close the box all that I see is a page with the "Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage". I can't go to any websites, all of them say the same thing. I have no clue what to do here, so I could really use some help.
