Memento script mistake?

interesting that Bert says Leonard has stayed there a couple of days but earlier in the train of events we discover that Leonard has stayed there considerably longer than that because Bert has been ripping him off by renting out another room to him- I wonder if this is a mistake in script (after all why would Bert needlessly lie and contract Leonards stay?)
