Is it illegal to wear a fake ballistic armor vest in MA?

I'm going to Anime Boston as Rebecca Chambers. I have to to take the bus from college and I want to just wear my cosplay on the bus but I've heard that it's illegal to wear body armor in public. I don't foresee any problems at the convention; I'm just worried about the commute.
